Canine Nurture provides bodywork for dogs of all ages and lifestyles across North East Victoria.

I am an accredited canine musculoskeletal practitioner with qualifications and ongoing training in animal behaviour and welfare, myofunctional therapy, laser application, and the relationship between pain and behaviour. This allows me to look beyond symptoms and support how a dog moves, feels, and copes in everyday life.

I specialise in remedial massage, functional and conditioning exercises and laser therapy, to help improve mobility, restore function and support the body through growth, injury, recovery and ageing. Whether working with young dogs developing strong foundations, active dogs needing maintenance, or older dogs requiring ongoing support, every treatment plan is carefully tailored to the dog’s needs, personality, and lifestyle.

Appointments are available at the Wang Doggy Day Spa Health and Wellness Hub in Wangaratta, as well as in-home across surrounding areas.

I work closely alongside your veterinary team when required, providing treatment updates and findings to ensure your dog receives safe, collaborative care.

My goal is simple, to improve quality of life at every stage, help dogs move with comfort and confidence and support bodies that are resilient, healthy and able to enjoy life to the fullest.

Conditions I Support

The therapies I offer can support a wide range of conditions, from injury recovery and joint issues to mobility challenges, age-related changes and the ongoing development and maintenance of young, fit dogs. Every dog is unique, so each treatment plan is completely tailored to their experience of the condition, their lifestyle at home, and their individual personality.

Young Dog Development

By giving puppies and young dogs a more managed start during their musculoskeletal development, we can proactively reduce the risk of injury, arthritis, and age-related soft tissue issues later in life. While puppies may appear robust, their bodies are still vulnerable, damage caused by inappropriate exercise may not become apparent until adulthood.

Puppy conditioning supports healthy growth both physically and mentally. It focuses on developing body awareness, correct posture, efficient muscle engagement, core and stabiliser strength, proprioception, stillness and calm handler focus creating strong foundations for lifelong movement and wellbeing.

Active & Competition Dogs

Active and competition dogs place significant physical demands on their bodies through regular training and performance. Myotherapy and targeted exercise can be used to support posture, improve range of motion, enhance muscle strength and flexibility, and promote joint stability. This promotes efficient, balanced movement while reducing the risk of injury and supporting long-term performance and soundness.

Pre- and post-competition massage and laser therapy help prepare the body for work, support recovery, and reduce muscle tension, playing an important role in injury prevention. Ongoing maintenance care allows active dogs to remain comfortable, move freely, and continue doing what they love with confidence and ease.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that can significantly impact mobility, making everyday movement uncomfortable. As joint cartilage breaks down, inflammation, pain and stiffness develop, often leading to compensatory changes and secondary soft tissue dysfunction elsewhere in the body.

I am a certified Canine Arthritis Management Advocate and have firsthand experience caring for an arthritic dog. Targeted therapies such as myotherapy, functional exercise and laser therapy can help reduce pain, improve flexibility, decrease inflammation, strengthen functional mobility and support long-term joint health.

Alongside hands-on treatment, I guide owners on practical lifestyle changes, home setups and supplements to help their dog move comfortably and stay supported in daily life.

Joint Conditions

Beyond arthritis, dogs can experience joint conditions such as hip or elbow dysplasia, luxating patella or cruciate injuries/degeneration. These issues can massively impact comfort, strength and mobility.

Supportive therapies work alongside veterinary care to improve joint stability, strengthen supporting muscles and promote balanced movement.

This helps your dog remain comfortable and mobile, with the aim of supporting overall function and, where appropriate, helping reduce reliance on long-term medication.

Senior Dog Support

Anyone who has had a senior dog will know how incredibly special it is to be able to support and care for them in their later years.

Changes in mobility, muscle strength and cognitive function are common, but it doesn't have to be!

Functional exercises are used to maintain muscle mass and support joint health. Remedial massage relieves muscular tension and improves range of motion, while laser therapy can ease inflamed joints, support cellular repair and increase circulation. Keeping our golden oldies comfortable, engaged and supported through their later years.

Post Surgery Recovery

Following veterinary guidance, supportive therapies can play an important role in helping dogs regain comfort, movement and confidence during the healing process.

Myotherapy, laser therapy and carefully prescribed functional exercises can assist with pain management, reduce inflammation, support tissue healing, minimise muscle loss and encourage safe, controlled return to movement.

Surgical recovery is always tailored to the individual dog, their surgery and their stage of recovery, to help restore strength, mobility and body awareness, reducing compensation and supporting a smoother return to everyday activities.

Soft Tissue Dysfunction

This can occur when muscles, tendons, ligaments, or fascia become tight, overworked, weak or imbalanced. It often presents as stiffness, muscle tension, altered gait or posture, reduced mobility, and sometimes behavioural changes, reflecting discomfort or compensatory movement. These issues can develop due to injury, surgery, repetitive movement, poor posture, growth changes or long-term compensation for pain elsewhere in the body.

I focus on identifying and addressing these restrictions through hands-on manipulation, targeted functional exercises to stretch and strengthen tissues and supportive laser therapy to stimulate cellular repair.

By improving circulation, reducing tension, restoring normal movement patterns and supporting tissue repair, treatment helps enhance comfort, mobility and overall function, allowing dogs to move more freely and confidently in their everyday lives.

Neurological Conditions

Neurological conditions, such as intervertebral disc disease, nerve injuries, degenerative myelopathy, or cognitive dysfunction may affect motor control, proprioception, strength and coordination, often resulting in compensatory movement and secondary musculoskeletal strain.

These challenges can be stressful and overwhelming for owners, as everyday tasks like walking, toileting or playing may become difficult. My services provide supportive care alongside veterinary management, focusing on maintaining functional movement, supporting muscle engagement and reducing discomfort associated with altered movement patterns.

Treatment is always adapted to the individual dog’s neurological status, physical ability and overall health.

Anxiety

Anxiety in dogs can show up as tension, restlessness or guarded movement, often affecting posture, muscle tone and overall comfort. While behavioural support and veterinary guidance are essential, hands-on therapy, exercises and laser treatment can help reduce physical tension, promote relaxation and encourage calm, confident movement.

I also work with owners, teaching simple massage techniques and exercises they can do at home to help their dog feel more relaxed and confident in themselves.

Because anxiety can sometimes develop from an underlying physical condition causing discomfort, it’s important to have your dog checked by a veterinarian. Identifying and addressing any physical issues can help improve both comfort and mental wellbeing.
